HYDERABAD: Come July 15, infants born at five government and maternity hospitals in the city will be issued Aadhaar cards as the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has integrated registration of births with enrolment of Aadhaar card.
Before the hospital authorities issue the discharge summary report, the parents will be handed over the Aadhaar card and birth certificate of the child at the hospital itself.
The system will be introduced at Government Maternity Hospital in Nayapul, Government Maternity Hospital in Sultan Bazar, Niloufer Hospital, Osmania General Hospital and Gandhi Hospital from July 15 onwards.
The scheme is being implemented by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in coordination with CSC e-Governance Services India Limited under the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.
“Babies born in these government hospitals will be enrolled for Aadhaar and their birth certificates will be issued within seven days,” CSC e-Governance Services assistant vice-president J Raja Kishore told Express after a meeting with GHMC officials here on Tuesday.
These hospitals would be provided an enrolment kit and an operator to facilitate registration of birth of infants with Aadhaar enrolment. GHMC and CSC will impart training for the selected staff on Aadhaar enrolment shortly.
The hospitals would be provided with Tab based application, one tablet device, fingerprint device and Aadhaar certified resource for enrolment apart from broad band or Wifi connectivity.
This is going to be a real “Government to Citizen” initiative and a paradigm shift from the traditional concept where citizens have to apply and wait for certificates, said Raja Kishore.
Usually, civil registration regarding births and deaths are sent to the Registrar-General of India (RGI). Under the new system, UIDAI can source the birth registration data (BRD) from the RGI to generate an Aadhaar card. The birth registration certificate would also have the Enrolment ID (EID) number along with the registration number. Once approved by the competent authority, birth certificate will be generated with the EID number of the infant.
The biometrics of the child will be taken after attaining the age of five years. It can be done at any Aadhar enrolment centre in the state.
