The Digital Financial Literacy Campaign is involving the students of higher educational institutes for promoting digital economy.

Around 1 lakh students sign up for HRD Ministry's Digital Financial Literacy Campaign
From the time demonetisation came into effect, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked the students to support the HRD ministry’s VITTIYA SAKSHARATA ABHIYAN or VISAKA. The Digital Financial Literacy Campaign has been started from December 12, 2016 and going to end on January 12, 2017. The campaign is involving the students of higher educational institutes for promoting digital economy. The Government is targeting 500 cities having more than one lakh population. And from the very first day, it is getting a very good response. After receiving a tremendous response the government in hoping that the number of volunteers will reach 25 lakh soon.
On Thursday, at a press meet the Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the more than one lakh students having volunteered for the campaign within the first four days.
The Minister also added that “the training of students will start from tomorrow onwards and more and more students are joining the training programme.” So the training of students is going to start from today itself, i.e. on December 16.
Prakash Javadekar, also mentioned that this campaign is the biggest digital transformation of the country after Independence. He also said that Government officers, Bankers and administrators will be roped in to impart the training. After the training, the students will educate their family members and other families in their neighborhood motivating them to go in for digital payment. He said that he himself would address about 25000 students on December 20, 2016 at Pune.
During the training period, students will be trained about the opening of an account, linking Aadhaar card with Bank account, linking Mobile to Aadhaar card and all other required information for digital literacy for transforming cash society to less cash society. They will be imparted training in Aadhaar based payment system, pre-paid card, Unified Payments Interface (UPI), Mobile wallet, Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD).
For adopting the digital mode of payment, many incentives are being offered by the Government. On regular basis, HRD Ministry will be monitoring public response about this campaign on its website.
The Minister said that the country has the adequate wherewithal of 100 crore Aadhaar Cards, 100 crore mobiles, 120 crores saving Banking Accounts, 77 crore debit cards, 3 crore credit cards to make this digital payments campaign, a big success.
