Drive to be completed before December 15
The Directorate of Census Operations, Ministry of Home Affairs, Bengaluru, in collaboration with the Mysuru District Administration and the Mysore City Corporation (MCC) on Sunday launched the drive to seed Aadhaar numbers with the National Population Register (NPR).
The month-long door-to-door survey began with the seeding of Mayor B.L. Bhyrappa’s Aadhaar number. The officials from the directorate and the MCC visited Mr. Bhyrappa’s residence at J.P. Nagar and collected details of him and his family members.
They also updated the NPR of Deputy Mayor Vanitha by seeding her Aadhaar details.
The drive is to revise the National Population Register database by seeding the Aadhaar numbers, the officials said.
Armed with the register of Aadhaar numbers of the people of Mysuru sourced from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and NPR booklet, the enumerators began door-to-door survey, revising the database by seeding Aadhaar details from each household.
Pilot districts
Mysuru and Tumkur were the pilot districts in the State where Aadhaar enrolment was launched a few years ago soon after its launch by the Government of India.
The enumerators will visit all the households allotted to them and update the following — name of the person, sex, date of birth, name of father, name of mother, place of birth, present address, etc. — in the NPR database besides seed the Aadhaar number. They will also fill up the blank NPR schedule of new households/members found in the enumeration block.
In a press release here, Deputy Commissioner C. Shikha appealed to the people of Mysuru to cooperate during the drive and share details with the enumerators.
The existing NPR database would be revised besides enrolling households/persons not found in the NPR by issuing fresh NPR forms.
She requested the general public to keep ready the Aadhaar letters or the UIDAI acknowledgement slip of all the members of the household, if already enrolled in Aadhaar and also to provide the ration card number of the household to the enumerators for recording the same in the NPR database booklet.
Nation-wide drive
MCC Zonal Commissioner Jaware Gowda told The Hindu that the seeding of Aadhaar numbers with the NPR is a nation-wide exercise and the drive had been launched in the city.
“We have given the target to complete the exercise before December 15,” he said.
He said Mysuru had been categorised into over 1,000 enumeration blocks covering 65 municipal wards.
