Around 300 private schools in the district have been put on notice for their failure to attend a mandatory meeting called by the deputy commissioner (DC) on Monday to discuss the delay in uploading of Aadhaar details of their students.
The DC had called 376 private schools, which had not completed even half of the work, to instruct them to expedite the process of providing information of their students’ Aadhaar numbers and uploading it on the e-Punjab school portal before December 31.
It was found that out of 376 schools, 171 had not even started the work. On the other hand, the government schools have nearly completed the task.
Now, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Girish Dayalan, who is heading the district in the DC’s absence, has sent a notice to the school heads seeking an explanation for their absence, to be filed by December 23. If any school fails to reply, strict action would be taken against the school, the letter states.
Earlier, DC Kamal Kishor Yadav had met representatives of all 862 private schools of the district on December 18, when it came to light that 376 schools had not even completed 50% of the task. These schools were told to attend the Monday’s meeting. However, representatives of most of them failed to turn up, following which the notices were issued, said district education office (DEO, secondary) Harinder Pal Singh.
The DEO, who was present in the meeting along with DEO (primary) Massa Singh Sidhu and deputy DEO Anil Awasthi, said action would be taken against those schools that fail to respond.
ADC Dayalan questioned that if government schools could complete the work despite being short of finances, then why were private schools delaying the process?
“We are asking them to upload the information as soon as possible, because the last date to complete the work isDecember 31 and there will be holidays from December 24 toJanuary 6. The move is for the betterment of students, since all government schemes including scholarships have been linked to Aadhaar,” he said.
