Allahabad: The teachers of primary, secondary schools and aanganwadi workers would be paid directly to their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. Which means they would have to get their unique ID cards made, if they haven't already done so. This follows the decision whereby it was made mandatory for schools to facilitate Aadhaar cards for students between 6 and 14 years of age.
The directions came straight from Director General, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
"The government wants to ensure that all the services are linked to Aadhaar card," said additional director (basic education) Ramesh Tiwari.
The Aadhar number has been proposed to be linked with teachers' bank accounts so that there can be direct salary transfer. Meanwhile, the work of linking Aadhaar card to the aaganwadi and school students' bank accounts started a year ago is still lagging behind. As per education department scources, thousands of students are still to be covered despite several rounds of talks with district level authorities.
